Teacher's Notes

Teacher’s notes and audio version of Helen Ward’s Aesop’s Animal Fables

Helen Ward’s beautiful version of Aesop’s Fables (£7.99) features 12 fables narrated by actors Simon Chadwick and Eva Marie-Bryer, and accompanied by descriptive pieces of original music written and performed by Jane Carr. Toy trumpets herald the mouse army in "The Trappings of Power", timpani rolls echo the roar of the lion in "Size isn’t Everything", and the slinky tango style of the French accordion cleverly describes the sly fox, up to his tricks.

For teachers there are also Teacher’s Notes to accompany the book written by lecturer, writer and consultant Nikki Gamble and teachers Kathy Saeb-Parsy. These are written for KS2 (Years 5 and 6), though the ideas can be adapted for younger children. Pupils studying art in secondary school will also benefit from some of the suggestions for Art. The literacy framework specifically recommends that pupils study fables in Year 3 and Year 5. Helen Ward’s Anthology of Aesop’s Fables (£7.99) and the The Cockerel and the Fox (£4.99) are suitable for using with pupils in either year group.
